Background
and Experience
Not unlike many professional disciplines, the practice of the
law has in recent decades moved towards providing services in
specialist areas. This practice provides legal expertise in the
relatively narrow but related fields of environmental, planning
and local government law. That expertise is complemented with
hands-on experience in town planning, building surveying and building
construction.
In his local government roles, Mr Briggs provided his skills in
town planning, health surveying, environmental protection, development
control and building surveying to 5 local councils. In his practice
of the law, Mr Briggs was employed for 5 years as a solicitor
and member of an Environmental Planning and Local Government Practice
Group that provided legal services to a number of clients in the
private and public sector, including 4 local councils.
Following that period, Mr Briggs joined a group of development
and construction companies applying his numerous skills as the
in-house legal counsel and principal advisor. In that role, he
undertook litigation in the Local, District and Supreme Courts
and managed a busy town planning and property development portfolio
.
Since January 2001, Mr Briggs has practiced as a consultant town
planner providing advisory services and expert evidence in Land
and Environment Court proceedings. In September 2001, the legal
and building consultancy divisions were commenced in the practice.
Mr Briggs now applies his skills and experience in the disciplines
of law, town planning and building surveying and construction
as the principal of the multi-disciplinary practice of DG Briggs.
